LPLI Step by Step

The LPLI: A Simple Step-by-Step Path to Self Discovery and Leadership Growth

Step 1. Register

Individuals may purchase the LPLI for their personal use. Or conferences, judictories, or seminaries may register groups of individuals to participate in the LPLI. Once purchased, a license is valid for one year.

Step 2. Log on

Once you are registered as an LPLI user, the Lewis Center for Church Leadership will send you a User Name and Password. This will allow you to log into the area where the inventory process is administered.

Step 3. Consent

Before beginning the inventory, you will be asked to consent to the LPLI’s confidentiality provisions and to having your LPLI responses added anonymously to an aggregate data base used by the Lewis Center for research purposes and to assess the validity of the LPLI on an ongoing basis.

Step 4. Provide Demographic Information

The LPLI begins with a short series of questions about you and your ministry setting. The responses to these questions will not appear in your personalized leadership profile. They are for research verification purposes only. This information does not impact your LPLI results.

Step 5. Take Self-inventory

You will be asked to respond to a series of seventy-five statements related to you and your effectiveness in ministry. This takes about 45 minutes.

Step 6. Select Observers

You will be asked to identify six to ten observers who are familiar with your work and to provide their email addresses. A “pencil and paper” version of the observer inventory can be downloaded and provided to observers who do not use computers or those who speak Spanish or Korean.

Step 7. Follow up

You can log back into LPLI.org to ascertain whether an observer has completed the inventory and send reminders if necessary. At least five observers must complete inventories in order for the Lewis Center to process your report.

Step 8. Complete Your Profile

It is important that you and all your observers complete your inventories promptly. You will be reminded on a weekly basis to complete your self assessment until your profile is complete. At the end of sixty days, if you and at least five observers have not completed inventories, your account will be deleted.

Step 10. Receive Your Results

You will receive your personalized leadership assessment profile electronically from the Lewis Center for Church Leadership within four weeks of the completion of the above process. At this juncture, if you are using the LPLI as part of a group process in which your judicatory supervisor or anyone else will have access to your report, you will have the opportunity to approve or deny the release of your results.

Step 11. Use Your Results

The report you receive includes information on interpreting and using your results as well as suggestions on how to use your LPLI feedback in conversations with your supervisor or supervising committee. See Using LPLI
